Metal Gear Solid: Rising is an upcoming video game currently in development by Kojima Productions. It is slated to be released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The game is the eighth canonical release in the Metal Gear series, preceded by Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The series’ former tagline, “Tactical Espionage Action”, has been replaced by “Lightning Bolt Action”, to fit the new protagonist, Raiden. The name “Raiden” is Japanese for “Lightning Bolt”.

It has been confirmed that the story will not center around traditional Metal Gear series star Solid Snake, but rather Raiden. He is the main protagonist and player character of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Raiden is shown to be in the cyborg-ninja state he was in prior to the ending of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, although with different armour.
